Should marijuana be legalized? Almost everyone has debated on the question with one another or at least gave it some thought. Of course there are pros and cons for either side you would choose to take. It was once legal to use but not anymore.
In my opinion, i think marijuana should be legalized because the good that comes out of it outweighs the bad. First of all it's known to help some diseases such as arthritis. Another reason is it would somewhat turn around economy. Also half of the police forces job is busting people for pot and it could possibly make there lifes alot easier.
If it were to be legalized it would give farmers a whole new crop to grow around the U.S. That would give people hundreds of jobs. Also It gives the government another thing to tax to make some money off of it. The government is in debt over billions of dollars. If they made it less potent then it is these days it would be less dangerous.
Also they could enforce laws correlated with marijuana, just as they do with alcohol. That would set limits for people so they don't go on a marijuana binge and fry there brains. It could also reduce crimes all around the U.S. My predictions, it will be legalized by 2012 if the economy keeps going the way its going.

The only reason marijuana will not be 100% legal is because the way the government made it illegal. I think it would be a great way to stimulate the economical crisis, but then the government would tax, restrict and bully the farmers. When they criminalized it in the first place the main reason was racial issues. They did not like black men smoking pot and "taking advantage" of white women while stoned. The best direction for marijuana right now is medicinal, then the people who need it are able to produce their own medicine. Look at Cali, they have introduced a state law to make it legal and tax. They have paved the way for the marijuana movement. I don't think it is the right time to legalize marijuana as a country because of what happened during and after prohibition. The proper way is for a nationwide medical marijuana plan. After the success of that, then introduce a 100% legal marijuana to the U.S.
BTW after my rogerian essay last semester I learned the average THC percentage in the U.S. is about 7-8% while in Amsterdam the average is about 16% So I dont think the government would be able to control its contents, as well as they do alcohol
